The ruggedest way to spend my birthday
The choices given are: 1) alone in your tree stand, or 2) with friends at a shore lunch.
Well, I was born May 16, so alone in my tree stand may be rugged, but not very bright since there are no hunting seasons other than Crow open at the time. I suppose I could do a shore lunch with friends, but I don't do that. Everyone I know is aware that, on my birthday, I am to be left alone. Since I was in my early twenties (A long time ago), I always go fishing on my birhtday - ALONE! I have been in a lot of places on my birthdays over the years. Sometimes, I've gotten myself into some pretty nasty situations, but I'm still here. Folks I know think I'm crazy. They tell me that some of the things I do are dangerous and I should have a companion if I'm going to go as far into the wilderness after a fish. I could get hurt or even killed. I tell them:"So what? It's MY birthday.".
Birthdays, to me, are a time to reflect on one's life and reaffirm why I have always decided to live another year. That may change someday, but not as long as I can still do this.
I always tell people to take care and have fun. But I don't always follow my own advice. If you don't take care, it has a way of putting you into positions that are somewhat untenable. That's when you find out how rugged you really are. Trust me, I have the scars to prove it. I know RD has scars also.
As I have said before, everybody dies. But how many of us really live? I am going to live, live, live, and hope I die well.
