Safety Tips – Gun Hunters

Here’s a really, really bad habit that I see often, even on hunting shows on TV, where you’d think they’d have their shit together.

When you’re walking around, (or at any time, really) keep your trigger finger OUT of the trigger guard. If you ever fell or did anything else that could cause you to jar the trigger, the gun could go off. Even, with the safety being on, it could fail and the gun could discharge.

Your finger should never be inside the trigger guard until the gun is on its way to the shoulder. And, don’t be walking around playing with the safety either. Sure, if you expect game, like a ruffed grouse that’s about to flush, have your thumb or finger on the safety. But, like I said, keep your finger OUT of the trigger guard until the gun is on the way to your shoulder!
