RD’s Tips

Here are some "Ruggedly Rugged" tips that I've learned along way. I always learn from others, so maybe you could learn a few things from me! Yes, maybe some things that'll save you from going through some of the same screw ups that I have gone through!!

Know Your Range

Archery hunters MUST know the difference between 15 and 20 yards and 20 to 30. These days we’re lucky to have laser range finders to remove the guess work out of it. I’ll bet there are a lot less wounded deer...

Modern Technology Yes, But...

We are so spoiled these days when it comes to technology that is made for the fishing and hunting community. One of the most commonly used devices today, is of course, the GSP...

Go Easy on Those Lake Trout

If you’re fishing in deep water for lake trout with either a downrigger or with jigs, try to bring the fish up to the surface slowly. If you bring a lake trout (or any fish) up too quickly...

Find Your Deer

You’re up in your treestand and you’ve just made a shot with your bow on a deer at twenty yards. In your mind you’re confident it was a good, clean shot and you fully expect that the deer...

Blow the Stop Whistle

If you’re hunting a big game animal and you want to get the animal to stop, all you have to do is make some type of foreign sound. I’ve stopped a lot of deer by whistling at them...

Make that Shot Count

If you are hunting big game with a rifle you must be able to make a 200- 300 yard shot. I don’t know about you, but I could NOT make a 300 yard shot without a rest, especially, just before dark, when I’m freezing cold, my heart is pounding and shaking like a leaf...

Save Your Outboard Motor

I do a lot of unguided fly-in fishing trips each year and before I head out fishing, I always check to see that the outboard motor has NOT been left in the “locked” position...

Easier Hook Removal

If you fish with a lot of artificial lures like I do, you’ll have a bunch of crankbaits, topwaters and spoons in your tackle box that have two or sometimes even three treble hooks on them. If you catch a fish and its mouth is closed tightly on all three hooks of one treble hook...
