Ogoki Frontier – Still Simply Amazing! Okay, close your eyes. Ah, c’mon, just do it. Nothing weird is gonna happen, I promise! Now, imagine you’re backing your vehicle up to a float plane dock on Mattice Lake, five miles south of Armstrong, Ontario.

As more and more deer and bear hunters enter the woods each season, especially bow hunters, tree stand accidents are becoming more common. In the very least, you’ll be embarrassed and bruised after a fall. In the worst case scenario you’ll be killed. Many hunters have gone half way and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives.

When you’re guiding big game hunters and you’re on the move, especially if you’re walking through an area where there's tight cover and you can’t see very far anyway, there is NO reason why your client should have a cartridge in the chamber.

Everyone likes canned beans with their shore lunch. Having beans with your fish is almost mandatory up here in Canada and I couldn’t count how many times I've seen a can of Bush’s Beans or two at the camp site. The “old way” is to simply remove the lid and warm them up right in the can they came in. Remove the label and simply set the can on a grill over the fire or on a rock right beside it.

If you’re planning on frying up some spuds on an outdoor fire, pre-bake them thoroughly if you can. There’s nothing worse, especially for your fresh fish shore lunch, to eat potatoes that were simple tossed into the hot oil when they were still raw. The end result is normally burned on the outside and raw on the inside. In other words - a mess.

Whenever you’re frying something on an outdoor fire, like fish or chicken, Canola oil is usually a good choice because it has a high smoke point, meaning it can handle the heat well. It also has a relatively neutral flavour, so it won’t change the base of flavours you’re working with. Save the olive oil for your marinara sauces and stir fry.

One of the most common things can screw up a good outdoor cookout is not having enough good quality, dry firewood standing by. I don’t mean close by, I mean right beside your fire pit or grill. Have it split too and in various sizes.
