Everyone loves banana bread, especially in the duck blind or out on the lake! Let's face it, this is not exactly some "new secret" recipe. Banada bread is basically banana bread. It has bananas, flour and eggs... but I like this recipe because it's easy and always turns out awesome!

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter (or if you're a cheap-ass like me, use margarine)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour, all purpose is fine
3 - 4 very ripe bananas, even those old raunchy black ones...

As I set the hook into what was probably my tenth walleye in about eight or nine minutes, my ultra-rugged fishing buddies in the other boat couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Chef Tim Matthews and Chef Ken Veneruz from the Culinary Arts Program at Confederation College were literally catching fish and after fish. I know that sounds cliché, even predictable in a story like this, but it’s true. Absolutely true!

There have been some great new products out in the last ten years or so concerning nets and landing cradles. Manufacturers are giving us a lot of choices now and it’s not just good news for us, it’s especially good news for the fish!
After hunting waterfowl in many parts of Canada and the US, I can tell you one thing for sure… ducks are ducks and geese are geese. They normally land into the wind. Just before they take off, they huddle closely together. And, they normally take off into the wind too.

I often hear from non-hunters, or from people in general, that ducks and geese are very fat and basically, greasy as hell. Well, they’re half right… most domestic or farm-raised birds are. Not only are they fat, but compared to wild birds, they’re huge! A wild mallard duck for example, is about the size of a very small cantaloupe while one from the market can be four or five pounds! And, a wild Canada goose is often smaller than a farm-raised mallard!

Sitting fifteen feet above the frozen ground with a good stiff breeze smacking you in the face in the middle of November sure can make a guy appreciate things like hot coffee, long underwear and woodstoves. It can also make a guy appreciate whitetail deer hunting in Northwestern Ontario, especially when hunting with a bow.
